At West Essex Oral Surgery, anesthesia and sedation allow us to perform surgical procedures safely, comfortably, and with minimal stress for our patients. Our goal is to help you feel relaxed and confident while receiving the care you need.
How Does General Anesthesia Work?
General anesthesia allows patients to remain fully asleep during certain oral surgery procedures. To administer general anesthesia in an office-based setting, oral surgeons complete advanced hospital-based anesthesia training and must meet strict state licensing requirements. This includes formal education, hands-on evaluation, and regular renewal through continuing education. During procedures, specialized monitoring equipment and emergency systems are in place to ensure patient safety at all times. Our surgical team is trained to respond quickly and appropriately to any anesthesia-related needs. Patient comfort and safety are always our top priorities, and we encourage open conversations about anesthesia options during your consultation.
How Is IV Sedation Administered?
IV sedation helps patients feel deeply relaxed while remaining safely monitored throughout treatment. A small needle is placed into a vein in the arm or hand, allowing medication to be delivered through an intravenous line. This medication helps you relax, and many patients remember little or nothing about the procedure.
IV sedation is carefully controlled, allowing only the amount of medication needed to complete the procedure comfortably. If necessary, medications can be adjusted or reversed, and patients are gently awakened once treatment is complete.
